Michael Box Office: Jaafar Jackson starrer musical biopic enters 3rd weekend with good spike, nears Rs 55 crore mark
Jaafar Jackson's Michael, directed by Antoine Fuqua, recorded a nominal spike on its 3rd Friday. The movie is looking to close its 4th weekend closer to the Rs. 60 crore mark.
Michael collected Rs. 1.65 crore on its third Friday, registering a jump of 5 per cent from the previous day. The movie witnessed a drop of 60 per cent from last Friday. The movie took its total cume to Rs. 53.45 crore gross at the Indian box office.
The musical biopic is expected to add around Rs. 5 to 7 crore in its third weekend, which will take its cume to Rs. 58 crore or so. Based on the current trends, Michael is looking to wind up its entire theatrical run around Rs. 75 crore gross at the Indian box office, which will be a banger total for a musical drama. Previously, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour was the best performer at just around Rs. 13 crore, while global blockbuster Bohemian Rhapsody had collected only Rs. 7 crore in 2018.
Michael has emerged as a HIT film, marking the third HIT for Hollywood this year after Project Hail Mary and Lee Cronin’s The Mummy. All three have arrived within a short span of roughly a month. Even this week’s release, The Devil Wears Prada 2, is also performing well. While it may not emerge as a HIT, it is shaping up to be a success. What makes these results particularly impressive is that none of these films fits the conventional template of a Hollywood HIT in India, a market that is usually heavily IP-driven. There are some big films from big IPs slated for release later this year. 2026 could turn out to be a very strong year for Hollywood in India, especially if there are more unexpected successes and HITs along the way.
