Obsession grossed Rs. 3.60 crore approx on Wednesday, with the business going UP from Tuesday. Normally, you would have films dropping to less than Monday on Wednesday after the discount Tuesday, but here the film managed to stay up by around 40 per cent. The film is on a ramp here, with the awareness and business growing each day. The business on weekdays is similar to the weekend.

The six-day running total stands at just over Rs. 18.75 crore / USD 2 million. The advances for Thursday are on par with Wednesday, which means it will be again around Rs. 3.50 crore today, for the first week around Rs. 22 crore. Remember this is coming from a Rs. 1.60 crore opening day. It is considered a good trend when films do 10x their opening day in lifetime. Here the film will be 15x at the end of the first week.

The Day Wise Box Office Collections for Obsession in India are as follows:

Day Gross
Previews Rs. 0.55 cr.
Friday Rs. 1.60 cr.
Saturday Rs. 3.25 cr.
Sunday Rs. 3.75 cr.
Monday Rs. 2.50 cr.
Tuesday Rs. 3.50 cr.
Wednesday Rs. 3.60 cr.

Total Rs. 18.75 cr.

Since the weekdays are holding so strongly, the second weekend is set for a very strong hold, with collections likely to be higher than the first one. The film appears to be on course to surpass Rs. 50 crore nett at this point. How much higher it will ultimately go will depend on the second week, especially where it lands on Monday.

The Hollywood box office is generally very IP-driven; that holds for the horror genre too, with the biggest films coming from The Conjuring universe. This is an indie film, made on just a USD 750K production budget. Remarkably, the film will cover that from just the theatrical share from India.

Obsession is yet another W for Hollywood in India this year, and once again, it came largely unexpectedly. It is turning out to be a superb year for the industry, and that’s when the three biggest releases of the year, Avengers: Doomsday, The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day are yet to come. If these three maintain this ongoing momentum, 2026 will be the biggest year ever for the industry in India by a wide margin.
