Obsession collected Rs. 8.75 crore / USD 925K approx on Sunday, wrapping its second weekend at Rs. 20.75 crore / USD 2.15 million approx. That is not only 2.3 times what the film did on its opening weekend but also almost similar to its entire first week. This kind of gravity-defying trend is incredible to witness. The film has been doing this across the world for the last three weeks and now in India as well.

The running total for the Hollywood horror sensation after the second weekend stands at Rs. 42.60 crore / USD 4.50 million approx. The momentum is uber strong, and there seems to be no slowing down, with Monday's advances on par with Friday's, which means today's hold should be very strong as well. The film shall hit Rs. 50 crore mark on Wednesday, possibly a day earlier on Tuesday. For now, Rs. 80 crore plus lifetime seems to be a done deal, likely even Rs. 90 crore. With the latter, Obsession will emerge the top Hollywood film of the year in India, surpassing Project Hail Mary

The Day Wise Box Office Collections for Obsession in India are as follows:

Day Gross
Previews Rs. 0.55 cr.
Friday Rs. 1.60 cr.
Saturday Rs. 3.25 cr.
Sunday Rs. 3.75 cr.
Monday Rs. 2.50 cr.
Tuesday Rs. 3.40 cr.
Wednesday Rs. 3.40 cr.
Thursday Rs. 3.40 cr.

2nd Friday Rs. 4.00 cr.
2nd Saturday Rs. 8.00 cr.
2nd Sunday Rs. 8.75 cr.

Total Rs. 42.60 cr.

Obsession is reportedly made on a budget of just USD 750K / Rs. 6.75 crore approx. Adjusted for PPP, that would be equivalent to roughly Rs. 2-3 crore in India. Even taking the higher end of that range and factoring in release and marketing expenses, the total cost of production and release would still likely come in at under Rs. 5 crore. Against that, the theatrical share from India alone is set to be around Rs. 30 crore, making it an extraordinarily profitable venture.

We almost never see this in Bollywood nowadays. Some regional films do manage it, but nothing comes to mind for Bollywood. The production costs have ballooned, especially with star remunerations accounting for a significant portion of budgets. Even setting that aside, the production process isn’t efficient enough. Whenever costs are controlled, the quality often looks compromised on screen. Obsession is a reminder that this doesn't have to be the case. Despite its low budget, the film never feels cheap, proving that disciplined spending and strong creative execution can coexist, which is something Bollywood should strive for, as the theatrical market isn't what it was a decade ago.
