Obsession Box Office Collections: Horror hit scares Rs. 15 Cr in 5 days in India with Tuesday biz nearing Sunday
How far the film ultimately goes will depend on its hold in the second week, but at this stage, reaching Rs. 50 crore looks like a feasible target.
The Obsession grows...
The film had a fantastic Tuesday at the Indian box office, collecting Rs. 3.5 crore / USD 370K approx, surging 40 per cent from an already strong Monday hold. The five-day running total for the Hollywood horror film stands at Rs. 15 crore / USD 1.60 million approx.
The film is on a ramp here, with weekday business on par with the weekend. In fact, Tuesday came within touching distance of Sunday and surpassed Saturday. In terms of admissions, it is the biggest day of the run, surpassing Sunday. It doesn’t seem to be stopping, as the advances for Wednesday are closer to Tuesday and well over Monday, so it could be another day of around Rs. 3 crore. That will put the first week on track to Rs. 20 crore or so.
How far the film ultimately goes will depend on its hold in the second week, but at this stage, reaching Rs. 50 crore looks like a feasible target.
The Hollywood box office is generally very IP driven; that holds for the horror genre too, with the biggest films coming from The Conjuring universe. This is an indie film, made on just a USD 750K production budget. Remarkably, the film will cover that from just the theatrical share from India.
Obsession is yet another W for Hollywood in India this year, and once again, it came largely unexpectedly. It is turning out to be a superb year for the industry, and that’s when the three biggest releases of the year, Avengers: Doomsday, The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day are yet to come. If these three maintain this ongoing momentum, 2026 will be the biggest year ever for the industry in India by a wide margin.
