Obsession Week 1 India Box Office: Michael Johnston, Inde Navarrette’s horror saga set for a strong 2nd weekend; Hits Rs 22 crore in 7 days
Obsession, starring Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette, is expected to see big spikes in its second weekend, despite facing new releases.
Hollywood horror thriller Obsession continues to perform well in India. The Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette starrer collected Rs. 3.30 crore on its Day 7, registering a 10 per cent drop over Wednesday. This took its opening week's cume to Rs. 22.05 crore gross at the Indian box office, including paid previews.
Directed by Curry Barker, the movie had an opening of Rs. 1.60 crore. It is considered a good trend when films do 10x their opening day in lifetime. Here, the film will be 15x at the end of the first week. The way Obsession is performing, it is likely to see a big spike in the second weekend, despite facing new releases at the box office.
Based on current trends, the horror film is almost sealed for Rs. 50 crore gross club. How far it can go from there on will heavily depend on how it performs in the second week.

The Hollywood box office is generally very IP-driven; that holds for the horror genre too, with the biggest films coming from The Conjuring universe. This is an indie film, made on just a USD 750K production budget. Remarkably, the film will cover that from just the theatrical share from India.
Obsession is yet another W for Hollywood in India this year, and once again, it came largely unexpectedly. It is turning out to be a superb year for the industry, and that’s when the three biggest releases of the year, Avengers: Doomsday, The Odyssey, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, are yet to come. If these three maintain this ongoing momentum, 2026 will be the biggest year ever for the industry in India by a wide margin.
