Padmaavat box office numbers: Despite several controversies, SLB’s magnum opus witnesses a decent opening
Padmaavat, earlier titled Padmavati, finally hit the theatres yesterday following several controversies and death warnings. The magnum opus directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali stars Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in pivotal roles.

According to early estimates, the movie has earned around 18 crore nett on its opening day. It’s not the bumper opening which we expected of this magnum opus but considering that the movie has lost around 30-35% of its market with some circuits completely or partially shut, the opening numbers look decent.
The movie did not release well in states where fringe elements induced violence to warn people against watching the movie. However, despite that, with Padmaavat, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh witness their biggest opening day in the career.
The movie performed extremely well in Mumbai, Chandigarh. Many areas in South had some local protest going on which obviously affected the movie’s business.
The collections are expected to benefit from the national holiday that falls tomorrow.
Coming to the overseas marker, the movie had a dull but fair opening in Gulf but other than that, the movie is expected to have a a strong run in US / Canada and Australia.
The movie was earlier to clash with Padman but on SLB’s request, Akshay pushed his release date by two weeks.
Meanwhile, Deepika Padukone recently said that she is expecting earth-shattering box office numbers post Padmaavat release.
