This weekend, two starkly different movies are set to hit the theatres. On one hand, movies goers will see Kartik Aaryan, Bhumi Pednekar and Ananya Panday fill the shoes of Pati Patni Aur Woh, while Arjun Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Sanjay Dutt will bring to life the story of the famous Battle of Panipat in the film Panipat. The trailers of both movies have caught the audience's attention. And Arjun and Kartik have been aggressively promoting their respective movies for weeks now. But who will have an upper hand at the box office?

As per box office predictions, Kartik could win the first-day box office with his comedy remake. Trade Analyst Girish Johar tells Pinkvilla that both movies will have a good start. However, Pati Patni Aur Woh will perform better than Panipat. Explaining the factors that would work in favour of Mudassar Aziz's directorial, Girish says, "Pati Patni Aur Woh caters to a younger crowd, it has comedy in it and it is a light film. It has a little massy, desi connect to it which will ensure it has a wider audience."

"Whereas Panipat is a historical movie. History, as we all know, has a limited set of audiences. Since it is a historical genre, it does restrict its appeal to a wider audience vis-a-vis the mass," he added.

Panipat has one drawback. While Pati Patni Aur Woh's run time is a little about two hours, Panipat has a runtime of about three hours. The duration could impact the number of screens that could influence the box office collections. Given these factors, Girish predicts Pati Patni Aur Woh will have a good start.

However, he also adds that if the movies are good, the clashes do not impact the box office collection. Having said that, the trade expert predicts Rs 8.5 to 9 crore first-day box office collection for Pati Patni Aur Woh and Panipat could cash in Rs 5 to 5.5 crore. He adds that the word of mouth could influence these box office numbers. Reliable sources tell Pinkvilla that Pati Patni Aur Woh will have more than 2000 screens and Panipat could run in over 1700 screens.
