Patriot Final Box Office Collection: Mammootty and Mohanlal starrer closes theatrical run at disastrous Rs 29 crore in Kerala
Patriot, directed by Mahesh Narayanan, and starring Mammootty and Mohanlal, ended its entire box office run on a disastrous note.
Malayalam spy thriller Patriot exhausted its entire theatrical run on a disastrous note. The Mammootty and Mohanlal starrer could collect just Rs. 29.25 crore in its full run at the Kerala box office. Though the movie had a solid start at the box office, grossing over Rs. 8 crore on the opening day, it couldn't maintain the same momentum after the opening weekend.
It raked in over Rs. 24.75 crore in its opening week, followed by a sharp decline of 90 per cent in the second week, where it could add only Rs. 4 crore to the tally, taking the total cume to Rs. 28.75 crore in 14 days. Since then, Patriot crawled for over a week and could take its total cume to Rs. 29.25 crore, by adding Rs. 50 lakh more to the tally. Mounted at a massive cost, the Mahesh Narayanan directorial suffered a massive loss for the makers.
The movie was released with huge expectations on May 1. One of the major reasons behind its pre-release hype was the reunion of Malayalam cinema's two legends, Mammootty and Mohanlal, after nearly 18 years. Furthermore, it had an ensemble cast that included Fahadh Faasil, Nayanthara, Kunchacko Boban, Revathy, and others. However, no star power worked when the story failed and met with average word-of-mouth.
