Patriot India Box Office: Mammootty and Mohanlal starrer spy thriller flops, closes first week at Rs 24 crore

Patriot added Rs. 90 lakh on its Day 7, registering a drop of 25 per cent from the previous day. The spy thriller, starring Mammootty and Mohanlal in the lead roles, closed its opening week at Rs. 24 crore gross at the Kerala box office.

Directed by Mahesh Narayanan, the movie turned out to be a big disappointment at the box office. Though it recorded a good opening, the movie failed to sustain on the same level. With its weekdays recording poor trends, the movie flopped at the box office.

One of the major reasons why the movie is struggling at the box office is its mixed word-of-mouth. Had the movie garnered a positive reception, it would have recorded a better box office run. All eyes are now on its second weekend jump. It should aim to see a solid spike in order to reach a respectable total.

Patriot was a potential Rs. 100 crore grosser, however, it is now heading to wind up its entire run under the Rs. 50 crore mark.

For the unversed, Patriot is one of Malayalam cinema's biggest films of all time. The movie marks the reunion of Mollywood's two giants, Mohanlal and Mammootty, after nearly 18 years. The next big release from Malayalam cinema is Drishyam 3. It will be interesting to see whether the Mohanlal starrer can stand true to its franchise's cult status or not.
