Peddi Worldwide Closing Box Office Collections: Ram Charan starrer finishes with Rs. 333 Cr globally, Fifth biggest ever in APTS
Peddi ends its run as the eleventh highest-grossing Tollywood film of all time in India. Looking only at its Telugu-language collections, it rises to sixth place.
Telugu film Peddi has all but concluded its theatrical run, with its digital release scheduled for tomorrow, marking the formal end of its box office journey. The Ram Charan starrer has posted a solid worldwide gross of Rs. 333 crore, comprising Rs. 282 crore from India and Rs. 51 crore (USD 5.40 million) from overseas markets.
Peddi ends its run as the eleventh highest-grossing Tollywood film of all time. Looking only at its Telugu-language collections, it rises to sixth place. Going in deeper, the film ranks as the fifth highest-grossing film ever in the Telugu states, including the fourth highest in Coastal Andhra and the sixth highest in both Nizam and Ceded.
The box office performance of the film could be termed a BLOCKBUSTER in the home territory of the Telugu states. It did well in Karnataka. There was a Hindi-dubbed version, which didn’t do well. The big underperformance came overseas, where the film fared poorly, leading its distributors to incur back-breaking losses.
Despite the film doing mostly well at the box office, it is barely a cost-covering exercise, with the producer making some profits and distributors losing a similar amount. At one point, it seemed like the film would be a losing affair, but it managed to squeeze through. A film like Peddi shouldn’t be costing this much. When a film delivers BLOCKBUSTER business in its core market yet still fails to emerge as even a HIT, the problem lies not with the box office but with the economics of the production.
