Raja Shivaji Final Box Office Collections: Riteish Deshmukh starrer wraps theatrical run at Rs 110 crore in India
The Riteish Deshmukh starrer epic drama wrapped up its entire box office run at Rs. 110 crore gross, emerging as the highest grossing Marathi film in India.
Raja Shivaji, starring Riteish Deshmukh in the lead role, exhausted its entire box office run at Rs. 110 crore gross in India. The movie fetched Rs. 62 crore in its first week, followed by Rs. 28 crore in the second, Rs. 13 crore in the third and Rs. 5.25 crore in the fourth week. From there on, it can add Rs. 1.75 crore to the tally before leaving cinemas.
Directed by Riteish Deshmukh himself, the epic saga emerged as the highest-grossing film from the Marathi film industry, although when considering only the Marathi language, it is third behind Sairat and Baipan Bhari Deva, both of which grossed around Rs. 90 crore. Deool Band 2 is soon going to cross it as well.
Raja Shivaji had the advantage of a Hindi-dubbed version, which did very well for a dubbed film from the Marathi film industry, but the film had the potential to do even better. In fact, the potential was there to do way better in Maharashtra itself.
Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior grossed around Rs. 175 crore in Maharashtra state back in 2020 (adjusted to over Rs. 250 crore today), while Chhaava went on to collect over Rs. 300 crore. Raja Shivaji is centred on the very founder and leader of that empire, long anticipated and made in the empire's own language. While the film has done well so far, it is no longer in the running to reach the heights which Tanhaji and Chhaava reached.
