The 100 Crore Grossers Club in Tamil Nadu: Karuppu Twenty Second entrant, First for Suriya
Karuppu is far from done and is on course to collect over Rs. 150 crore in the state. On doing so, it will storm into the top ten grossers of all time in the state.
Karuppu has crossed Rs. 100 crore at the Tamil Nadu box office on its ninth day of release. Back in 2010, Endhiran was the first time a film came close to hitting Rs. 100 crore in Tamil Nadu, falling short by less than Rs. 5 crore. It was seven years later, when the landmark was finally breached, with Baahubali: The Conclusion grossing Rs. 146 crore.
Later in the same year, Mersal became the first Kollywood film to reach there. Over the following years, several films went on to breach the three-digit mark, and now Karuppu has become the twenty-second entrant into the club, while also ending Suriya’s long absence from the list.
Karuppu is far from done and is on course to collect over Rs. 150 crore in the state. On doing so, it will storm into the top ten grossers of all time in the state.
Thalapathy Vijay, who has recently stepped away from cinema, dominates the list with eight entries in the club. Since Mersal, none of his films failed to gross over Rs. 100 crore in the state, showcasing the amazing run he had over the last ten years. His last film, Jana Nayagan, is expected to be released next month and is likely to be another entrant to this club.
