Karuppu grossed Rs. 11 crore approx in Tamil Nadu on its first Monday. Only a handful of films have managed to remain in double digits on a Monday in the state, and most of them had the advantage of a holiday or holiday eve. Karuppu has done it without any holiday support, which makes it all the more impressive.
The Suriya starrer ranks at eleventh highest Monday of all time in Tamil Nadu. When taking the non-holiday ones, it comes third, just behind The Greatest of All Time and almost on par with Vikram. From the list below, taking out the holiday factor, it would probably come fifth after the aforementioned two and Leo & Ponniyin Selvam I. This is an elite company to be in, considering three of these films emerged as all-time record grossers in the state, while the fourth went on to collect over Rs. 200 crore. While Karuppu, at this moment, doesn’t appear to be on track to the Rs. 200 crore mark, one never knows for sure.
