Choi Woo Shik and Mun Ka Young to lead period melodrama Whale Star with Heo Nam Jun; Report
The makers of Whale Star announced an impressive line-up of actors including Woo Sik Choi, Moon Gayoung, Heo Namjoon, Yoo Jae Myeong, Strong, Kim Yeo Jin, and Gong Seung Yeon.
Putting all speculations to rest, tvN has officially unveiled a star-studded lineup for its highly anticipated period romance melodrama, Whale Star: The Gyeongseong Mermaid. Based on the critically acclaimed webtoon of the same name by Na Yoon-hee, the upcoming series features a powerhouse cast including Choi Woo Shik, Mun Ka Young, Heo Nam Jun, Yoo Jae Myung, Kang Han Na, and more.

Hours ago, the makers of 2027 tvN’s new drama Whale Star made the audience jump in joy by announcing the impressive star-studded lineup of the upcoming show.
Through an Instagram post, the makers shared the images of actors Woo Sik Choi, Moon Gayoung, Heo Nam Jun, Yoo Jae Myeong, Strong, Kim Yeo Jin, and Gong Seung Yeon, who are part of the entertainer. In the caption, they mentioned that the show will be premiering in 2027.

Whale Star reimagines Hans Christian Andersen’s classic fairy tale The Little Mermaid, taking the audience into the heartbreaking atmosphere of 1926 Gyeongseong during the Japanese colonial occupation.
The story chronicles the passionate romance and struggles of young people who put their lives on the line for their country and each other during a dark era of loss.
Choi Woo Shik will reportedly play Kang Eui Hyun, an independence activist born into a wealthy, pro-Japanese family. After witnessing tragic historical atrocities while studying in Japan, he dedicates himself to the liberation movement. After a dangerous mission leaves him injured and washed ashore, he is saved by Heo Su A (played by Mun Ka Young), a woman he eventually comes to cherish as dearly as his own homeland.
Heo Su A is a kind-hearted and resilient young woman working as a maid in a Japanese household. Her quiet life changes forever when she rescues Eui Hyun from the sea. Joining them is Heo Nam Jun as Song Hae Su, a fiery, unwavering independence fighter driven by the pain of losing his family.
The production also teased a list of veteran actors, including Yoo Jae Myung as Kang Geun Hyung, Kim Yeo Jin as Hwang Soon Im, and Gong Seung Yeon as Yeo Yoon Hwa (playing a special role). Whale Star: The Gyeongseong Mermaid is scheduled to premiere on tvN in 2027.
