Concussions in the cricketing field have been a matter of great concern in recent times, and substitutions for them are likely to be introduced in the upcoming Ashes, which begins from August 1.

The matter is being discussed in the ICC Annual Conference that is being held in London currently. According to a report, the changes are likely to be approved and implemented as soon as possible, so that safety norms are in place before the Test Championship begins.

The discussion around concussion substitutions have grown ever since the unfortunate death of Phil Hughes, who passed away in the field after the ball hit the back of his head in 2014. Officials are becoming more aware of the short-term and long-term affects of concussions, and in that case, a player will be allowed to walk back into the dressing room for necessary treatment, as another player, not originally in the 11, takes the field.

During Sri Lanka's recent tour of Australia, Kusal Mendis and Dimuth Karunaratne had been struck on the head, and they had to be taken to hospital for examination. The Sri Lankan team did not have a doctor, so the two players were treated by the Australian medical staff before they were taken to the hospital.

It is reported that all teams will need to have a doctor in the side in all international games as well.
