Happy Birthday Mahesh Babu: Why He is the Undisputed 'Prince' of Telugu Cinema

When we think of Telugu movies, the first actor that comes to  mind is Mahesh Babu. The  superstar has immensely impressed the audiences with his vast range as a performer .He has essayed  romantic as well as action-packed roles on the big screen.  Today, as Mahesh turns a year older, let's take a look at his top five movies and celebrate what is truly a remarkable career.

Pokkiri (2006)

Who doesn't know about the film Pokkiri? The film featured   Mahesh Babu in the role of an IPS Officer disguised as a local goon. It was  an action-packed affair and is considered as one his best performances. Pokkiri has been remade in several languages such as Tamil, Kannada and Hindi. The Hindi remake titled Wanted had Salman Khan in the lead and was  a blockbuster.

Okkadu (2003)

Okkadu was another path breaking movie of Mahesh. The film boasted of a blend of action and romance. It eventually became an instant hit. The handsome hunk played the role of Ajay, a Kabbadi player who saves Swapna (Bhumika Chawla) from a local gangster.  How he saves her and eventually  falls in love with her is shown aesthetically in the movie. Okkadu helped Mahesh Babu win several awards in the Best Actor in a Leading Role category. This film has also been remade in other languages like Tamil, Bengali, Kannada and Hindi. The Arjun Kapoor and Sonakshi starrer Tevar was a remake of this movie.

Dookudu (2011)

Even in this movie, Mahesh donned the role of a cop G. Ajay Kumar I. P. S. The film was partially adapted from the German film Good Bye, Lenin! Mahesh enthralled the audiences with his splendid performance. People love watching the talented actor doing some kickass action on the big screen. For this film also, Mahesh bagged several awards for his outstanding performance.

Srimanthudu (2015)

In this film, Mahesh played the role of Harsha Vardhan who becomes an heir of the business empire. The film gives a social message of helping in the development of backward villages. After this film, reportedly many actors, bureaucrats and politicians announced plans for developing the villages by adopting them. Srimanthudu went on to become the second highest-grossing Telugu film of all time.

Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu (2013)

This incredible movie had an ensemble cast of Daggubati Venkatesh, Mahesh Babu, Anjali, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Prakash Raj. Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu revolves around a simple and vibirant middle-class family in a small village of Andhra Pradesh. People loved the camaraderie between Venkatesh and Mahesh. As such, it became a commercial success. This film was considered as the first star-studded film in the last thirty years of the Telugu film industry. Mahesh even went on to win Filmfare Best Actor Award for his amazing performance in the film.
