From Karan Johar to Rohit Shetty; take a look at the directors who worked with actors other than their favourites and how they fared!

Every director in the movie industry has a favourite actor with whom they have more fun working with. They both have created history at the box-office and fans wait to watch more of them in the movies.
Be it Karan Johar-Shah Rukh Khan, Kabir Khan-Katrina Kaif, Rohit Shetty-Ajay Devgn and much more, the combos have been a winner at the ticket window. But these filmmakers have also penned down the script for other stars, and while some have worked well, some failed to create magic on the big screen.
Here is a few list of directors who worked with actors other than their favourites and how they fared:
Karan Johar
Karan Johar, out of his six films, had Shah Rukh Khan in the lead for four times! Some movies like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham were blockbusters and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, My Name Is Khan were hit. His last two films didn't have SRK as the leading hero - Student Of The Year was a semi-hit at the box-office. Whereas Ae Dil Hai Mushkil won hearts and became a superhit.
Farah Khan
Farah Khan started off her directorial career with superhit film Main Hoon Na in the year 2004. The film starred Shah Rukh Khan and he was loved for his character as Major Ram Prasad Sharma, who disguises as a student. Later on, Farah and SRK worked together in Om Shanti Om (2007) which was another blockbuster. But, her third movie Tees Maar Khan (2010) starred Akshay Kumar in the lead and the film bombed at the box-office. In 2014, Farah came back as a director with Happy New Year which had SRK in the lead and the movie became all time blockbuster at the box-office.
Kabir Khan
Kabir Khan started off his film career with Kabul Express, then went on to direct New York which starred Katrina Kaif. His third directorial Ek Tha Tiger also starred Katrina as the leading lady. The film was a big hit at the box-office. His next film Bajrangi Bhaijaan had Kareena Kapoor Khan opposite Salman Khan and the movie won several accolades at leading award ceremonies. It was declared a blockbuster. The same year (2015), Kabir released Phantom, which had Katrina and Saif Ali Khan in the leads but the movie failed to impress the audience.
Rohit Shetty
Rohit Shetty has directed about 11 movies in his career, out of which nine starred Ajay Devgn and two had Shah Rukh Khan in the leading role. Ajay and Rohit's Jodi is a big hit at the box-office with Golmaal and Singham franchise. Rohit and SRK's first film together Chennai Express broke the box-office records and was declared blockbuster but their second film Dilwale didn't impress the audience and the critics!
