The year 2018 is officially ending tonight and while the entire year has been about good cinema and what we say as 'content driven' cinema in Bollywood, many other things besides movies also took place. Summarising the year for you, from the galore of weddings to the revolutionary Me Too movement, we list down the top newsmakers of 2018. Brace yourself.

1. Padmaavat: The year started on a high note with the controversy surrounding the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus Padmaavat which starred Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in lead role. The Karni Sena members went on to the extent of life threats and more to stop the release but after several meets and censorship, the film finally saw the light of the day and opened to strong numbers making it one of the biggest hits of 2018, and the biggest of Bhansali.

2. Me Too: A revolution of sorts took place in the industry this year after Tanushree Dutta reiterated a harassment incident which happened with her some 10 years back. After that, Vinta Nanda and many others came forward to accuse Alok Nath of sexual harassment. Not just Alok, many names from the industry were accused of the heinous crime and were made accountable.

3. Sridevi's demise: Much to the shock for everyone, Bollywood's first female superstar Sridevi passed away this year in February after accidentally drowning in her hotel bathtub. Her family and fans were left Khan devastated post this news and continued to mourn for several months after that.

4. Weddings: The one thing which was common throughout the year were the innumerable weddings. It's like the wedding fever bit the stars in Bollywood. From Sonam Kapoor-Anand Ahuja to Deepika Padukone-Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra-Nick Jonas, our top hero and heroines got hitched this year.

5. Relationships: One of the big things which happened this year was the actors and actresses coming out in public to accept their relationships. While Ranbir Kapoor in an interview confessed to dating Alia Bhatt, Varun in Koffee With Karan 6 made his relationship with Natasha Dalal official. Farhan Akhtar and Shibani Dandekar too made it official with their public appearances and social media PDA. Even Malaika Arora and Arjun who have been rumoured to be together have been liking and indulging in social media PDA without really confirming their relationship.

6. Fight no more: This year also saw a seed of friendship being sowed between actresses who have always been pitted against each other. While Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt came together on Koffee With Karan, Katrina Kaif took the olive branch Deepika extended by inviting her to her wedding reception. Not just that, Deepika and Katrina started following each other on social media as well.

7. Priyanka and Salman's banter over Bharat: One of the biggest news this year was Priyanka Chopra walking out of Salman's Bharat last minute due to her wedding. Katrina came in to take her place but Salman in his comments said that while he is not upset, looks like PeeCee does not want to work with him given that now she is in Hollywood. However, Salman did attend her wedding reception recently.

8. Sibling Bond: One of the big things that happened this year is the Kapoors came together post Sridevi's demise. Janhvi Kapoor, Khushi Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor who did not see eye to eye earlier came together at the time of mourning and a beginning of new relationship took place, much to everyone's happiness.

9. Sacred Games: While the year had been decent when it comes to the censor board and its rule, Sacred Games, India's first Netflix original, ran into controversy over the use of Rajiv Gandhi's reference in a negative turn. The court then had to ask the streaming site to remove that part from the scene.

10. The debacle of Khans: While small budget, content-driven and masala movies fared pretty well in cinemas this year, it is the Khans and their movies which failed to live upto the expectations. From Salman Khan's Race 3 to Aamir Khan's Thugs of Hindostan and the most recent Shah Rukh Khan's Zero, the Khans couldn't give a single blockbuster.

Here's looking forward to an even better 2019!
