Father’s Day is a special occasion on which all kids express their love for the most loving member of their family, who sometimes might be the strictest too. Over the years, the portrayal of dads on-screen has changed and many of the actors now have given some brilliant performances as fathers on-screen. From Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor to Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Rishi Kapoor, every star has left their own impression on the big screen as a father.

Since our cinema is an extension of society, all the actors make sure to put their best foot forward. Be it the strict dad played by Anil Kapoor in Dil Dhadakne Do or the cool dad portrayed by Amitabh Bachchan in Piku, Bollywood has always showcased the relationship between a father and child in the most beautiful way. On this special day, we bring forth a list of the most loved dads played by stars on-screen.

Check it out:

Aamir Khan as Mahavir Singh Phogat in Dangal

Inspired by Mahavir Singh Phogat, Aamir Khan essayed the role of the stern father who dreamt big for his daughters and trained them to become the best athletes in the country. Despite his rebellious girls, Aamir as Mahavir kept training them to become wrestlers and to bring out their best in front of the world. While others believed that daughters should be married off, Aamir as Mahavir proved that girls are not less than boys in anyway. Aamir as Mahavir Singh Phogat is quite an inspiration and his dialogue “Hamari choriyan choro se kam hai ke?” proves it.

Anil Kapoor as Kamal Mehra in Dil Dhadakne Do

Anil Kapoor as Kamal Mehra is a dashing dad who we all hated in the beginning but eventually loved by the end. Anil as Kamal forced his son, played by Ranveer Singh, to take up the family business as he strongly believed in patriarchy and wanted his daughter played by Priyanka Chopra to focus on her marriage. Kamal also played a man who was flirtatious and didn’t care much about his wife’s feelings. However, his feelings change during a trip and we see that when he whacks his son-in-law who threatens his daughter and allows his son the freedom to live his life. Kapoor beautifully portrayed this character which became a favourite of the audiences.

Shah Rukh Khan as Rahul Khanna in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

Shah Rukh Khan essayed the most memorable role as a father when he played Rahul Khanna in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. The relationship which he shared with his daughter, Anjali is still remembered. Be it his sweet way of teasing Farida Jalal who played his on-screen mother or just taking care of his little girl post his wife’s demise, Rahul aka SRK won hearts with his portrayal of a father. Even after his wife dies, he doesn’t marry anyone else despite his mother’s efforts. SRK as Rahul is the dad we all wish we have.

Amitabh Bachchan as Bhaskor Banerjee in Piku

Played by Amitabh Bachchan, Bhaskor Banerjee might be a nagging and annoying father who is obsessed with his bowels, but to Deepika Padukone aka Piku, he is a doting father. Like a typical Bengali dad, Bhaskor aka Big B allowed his girl the freedom to live her life and wasn’t concerned about who she is dating. When it comes to his daughter, he is the bragging dad who gloats about his girl’s achievements and is proud of the fact that she is strong enough to voice her opinion.

Rishi Kapoor as Santosh Duggal in Do Dooni Chaar

As a struggling teacher who is trying to make ends meet, Rishi Kapoor as Santosh Duggal is the most relatable father on-screen. His kids have demands but know that their father can’t afford them. But, Rishi Kapoor can be seen bending over backwards to fulfill every wish that his kids have. Even when his daughter stubbornly asks him to buy a car, Rishi aka Santosh does everything to fulfill the family’s wish. Despite being a man of principles, Santosh even decides to take a bribe to fulfill his kids wishes, but his kids stop him. Out of all the dads on-screen, Rishi Kapoor as Santosh Duggal proves to be the most adorable one.

Apart from these, stars like Anupam Kher in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Farooque Sheikh in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Uttpal Dutt in Golmaal, and many others have played iconic roles as dads on the big screen and have aced it.
