The actor became a sensation with his Khiladi series. He continued to raise eyebrows performing his stunts on his own in his action sequences and came to be known as the Khiladi of Bollywood. The action thriller featured Akshay as Raj Malhotra stuck amidst the terror of his college friend Sheetal's murder who was out to save another friend Neelam as he learns that her life is in danger. The film was the first installment in the Khiladi series followed by seven sequels Main Khiladi Tu Anari, Sabse Bada Khiladi, Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi, Mr. and Mrs. Khiladi, International Khiladi, Khiladi 420 and Khiladi 786. 

Heri Pheri

A cult classic comedy featuring the trio of Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal and Suneil Shetty. The film is voted as the best Bollywood comedy film of all time in an online poll. The story shows the three men aspiring for a luxurious lifestyle, trying to devise a plan to reach from rags to riches. The comically hilarious Baburao Apte, Shyam and Raju answer a phone call which changes their life. They get the money they want but it comes with a price.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa

A comedy psychological thriller that features Akshay Kumar as a humorous psychiatrist. On having reported paranormal activities in the palace, his friend Siddharth calls upon Dr. Aditya to unfold the mystery behind the uncanny incidents. Akshay, playing a tongue-in-cheek psychiatrist goes about the case in his own jocular manner giving a dose of laughter amidst the fright and horror.

OMG- Oh My God!

Holiday

An action-thriller based on the life of a soldier, Akshay Kumar featured as Virat Bakshi, Captain in the Defence Intelligence Agency who returns to his hometown for a holiday. The film shows how a soldier is never off duty. On having returned to his city, Virat learns about 12 sleeper cells going around freely across the town and he must devise a plan to track these bombers and save the netizens.

Padman

Taking a new turn in terms of films, Akshay Kumar showed his philanthropist side with this biopic. Paying tribute to the man who promoted women's health and hygiene in the country, Pad Man is a true story based on the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, also known as  "India's Menstrual Man". Giving out an impactful message, the film shows Akshay as a doting husband who not only avenges to promote the use of sanitary napkins to his wife but also to the entire nation despite facing dissent from his family.

Mission Mangal

A recent success for Akshay Kumar, Mission Mangal is based on the life of scientists at the Indian Space Research Organisation who contributed to the Mars Orbiter Mission, India's first interplanetary expedition. The multistarrer film showed the journey of a group of scientists, who despite setbacks came out successful in launching The MoM (Mars Orbiter Mission) satellite making India the 4th country in the world to do so and the first country to do it in the first attempt.
