It was on this day, 57 years ago, when the talented Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise was born. The actor made his debut in 1983 and became a household name when he starred as Joel Goodson in Risky Business (1983). Who can forget the baby pink shirt wearing pant-less Cruise dancing around in Goodson's living room? However, it was Top Gun (1986) that certified Tom as a bonafide superstar and there was no looking back for Lt. Pete "Maverick" Mitchell. Other acting credits include Cocktail (1988), Born on the Fourth of July (1990), Collateral (2004) and Jack Reacher (2012) amongst others.

Tom has been nominated for three Academy awards - Born on the Fourth of July, Jerry Maguire (1996) and Magnolia (1999). However, the actor is yet to clinch the Best Actor win! However, the Golden Globes have been especially kind to Tom as the actor has won three Best Actor awards out of seven nomination - Born on the Fourth of July, Jerry Maguire and Magnolia. With such a long-lasting career span, there still is no stopping the actor as he continues to dominate the box-office numbers, with good films.

As the handsome actor celebrates his birthday today, here are 5 movies of Tom Cruise that deserve a binge-watching session:

Top Gun (1986)

It's true that Risky Business put the young Cruise on the map but it was his portrayal of Maverick that showcased what an impeccable talent he was. It was the bond between Maverick and Moose that people still get emotional over. It's still real to us damn it!

A Few Good Men (1992)

"You can't handle the truth," is the dialogue that people talk about when they refer to A Few Good Men. However, it was also Tom's supporting performance that struck the perfect balance with Jack Nicholson and gave us a cinematic spectacle.

Jerry Maguire (1996)

"Show me the money!" and "You complete me!" A slick drama about a sports agent which turns into an emotional drama. You can't help but feel for Tom's character and he truly deserved the Oscar nomination.

Magnolia (1999)

TJ Mackie was a character for which Tom Cruise deserved an Oscar. It was a role no one could see him in, but that's the magic of one Mr. Cruise.

Mission Impossible Franchise (1996-Present)

Ethan Hunt never disappoints, especially when Tom has a death wish and tries to outdo every stunt, with the next film in the MI franchise. Whether it be hanging on top of Burj Khalifa or hanging outside a plane like it's no big deal.

Special Mention: Tropic Thunder (2008)

A special mention to the greatest dancer, who could give even Jennifer Lopez, a run for her money - Mr. Les Grossman. The audience was astonished beyond belief when they found out that Tom had a cameo in the film and steals the show! A weird role became immortal, only because of Tom Cruise. We'll never be able to see Flo Rida's Low without Les' dancing prowess ever again!
