From Raja Hindustani to Thugs of Hindostan, Aamir Khan is set to spark up the Diwali week after 22 years
After 22 years, Aamir Khan is all set to entertain the audiences in the Diwali week with Thugs of Hindostan. His last Diwali week releases were Raja Hindustani and Andaz Apna Apna. Let’s take a look at how his Diwali releases’ performed at the Box Office.
If there is one of the most bankable actors in Indian film industry, we can say it’s Aamir Khan without a doubt. Not only is he known for his perfection but also for the amount of hard work he puts in each film. In each film, he is so committed that he ends up giving his 100% and that always makes a film a blockbuster at the box office. However, not many of his films have released in festive week of Diwali. Barring a few other films, Aamir Khan’s last Diwali releases were Raja Hindustani in 1996 and Andaz Apna Apna in 1994. But this year, he is all set to break tradition with his upcoming magnum opus, Thugs of Hindostan.
Yes! Thugs of Hindostan is all set to spark up the Diwali week and is being touted to break all box office records. The movie starring Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh apart from Aamir Khan will release in 3 languages, i.e Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. As per Girish Johar (Film and Trade Analyst), the movie will perform well on the box office and will go on to make approximately INR 50 Crores on the opening day. Keeping in mind that Bollywood doesn’t have many film releases around the Diwali week due to superstition, this number is surely a record-breaking one for Aamir Khan’s film.
Aamir’s last Diwali releases were Andaz Apna Apna which released on November 4, 1994 and Raja Hindustani which released on November 15, 1996. Diwali in the year 1994 was on November 6 and in the year 1996 was on November 11. Looking at the box office collection of these films on the opening day, Raja Hindustani went on to make about INR 59 Lakhs and Andaz Apna Apna made INR 31 Lakhs. The total box office collection for Raja Hindustani was INR 43 Crores and for Andaz Apna Apna was INR 6 Crores. Given these figures, Andaz Apna Apna didn’t work and flopped, whereas Raja Hindustani went on to be a blockbuster hit film for Aamir. Raja Hindustani was not only critically acclaimed but also went on to be third largest grosser of the 90s.
Now, considering the box office collection prediction for Thugs of Hindostan, all we can say is that this Diwali might just turn out to be total festive for Aamir Khan. Whatever the case maybe, Aamir Khan as Firangi Malla in the trailer has surely impressed the audience and they are loving the unpredictability of his character. The trailer also left a lasting impression on the audience and the songs, especially Suraiyya featuring Aamir and Katrina was loved for the flirtatious banter between the two. Thus, with such figures and his box office record for Diwali week, Thugs of Hindostan might just be one of the tradition breaking films for the box office and Aamir Khan. We will find out the fate of the film on November 8, 2018.
