Hosts England take on qualifiers Afghanistan in the 24th match of the tournament at Old Trafford, Manchester on 18th June. England are firmly placed at number 4 in the points table with 3 wins from their 4 outings. Their only loss came against Pakistan at Trent Bridge in the second game of their World Cup campaign. After that game, they have excelled in all three departments and have emerged as firm contenders to lift the World Cup trophy for the first time ever. Of late, they have been plagued by injuries, the latest victim being Skipper Eoin Morgan, who left the field due to a back spasm during their previous outing against West Indies. In case if Morgan sits out for the game against Afghanistan, it would be Jos Buttler who would be leading the side.

On the other hand, Afghanistan have lost all their previous encounters till now to South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka. They are languishing at the bottom of the table and must need to perform collectively as a unit in order to pose any serious threat to the opposition.
