Defending champions Australia will take on hosts England in the second semifinal of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Australia missed out on the number spot after they lost to South Africa in the final group game whereas England secured a spot in the semis after beating India and New Zealand in consecutive games by the end of group stage.

For England, the return of Jason Roy at the top of the order has given them stability. His contributions against India and New Zealand proved quite invaluable towards his team securing a spot in the semis. Apart from him, Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root have also contributed heavily, scoring over 950 runs between them. Their group game against Australia did not go according to the plan as they failed to chase down 285 after being ripped apart by Jason Behrendroff and Mitchell Starc at Lord's a few weeks back. They would be keen to make a strong comeback in what will be a high-scoring game at Birmingham.

Meanwhile, Australia have never lost any of their previous World Cup semi-finals and would have a psychological boost when they take on England. David Warner and skipper Aaron Finch have been in sublime form and have scored 638 and 507 runs respectively. In the bowling department, Mitchell Starc has picked up 26 wickets from 9 games at an average of 16.62. The battle between Mitchell Starc and the English bowlers would might just decide the course of the match.
