After almost a long wait of 17 years, India finally gets its crown back and it is all because of Manushi Chhillar, Miss World 2017. The young 20-year-old won this esteemed competition and put back India on the global map. She won the Miss India pageant where she represented her home state Haryana earlier this year on June 25th. However, it was her answer that not only won her the title but also bazillion hearts across the globe.

Manushi was asked, “Which profession according to you deserves the highest salary and why?” To which she confidently replied, “I think a mother deserves the highest respect. I don’t think it’s just about the cash, but also the love and respect she gives to someone. She is the biggest inspiration in my life. Mothers should get the highest salary and respect.”

Post that in a statement Manushi said, “The feeling is still sinking in and very excited to make India proud too. I’m also looking forward to the year ahead. My parents have always been my pillar of support and having them here tonight by my side has only brought me more strength and joy. My final answer also came to me by having them here with me in front of me”.

She also tweeted from her official Twitter handle,“Thank you, everyone, for your constant love, support, and prayers. This one’s for India.”

The newly crowned Miss World hails from Haryana and is pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in  medicine and surgery from Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women in Sonipat, Haryana. Manushi is a trained Kuchipudi dancer and was trained under the legendary dancers Raja and Radha Reddy. She is an enthusiastic sports lover who loves snorkelling, bungee jumping and scuba diving. Manushi’s parents also belong to the science field. Her father, Dr. Mitra Basu Chillar is a scientist at Defense Research & Development Organisation whereas her mother, Dr. Neelam Chhillar is the head of department of Neuro-Chemistry at the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences.

Manushi Chhillar is the sixth Indian to have bagged this title, Priyanka Chopra congratulated her “successor” by tweeting “And we have a successor! Congratulations @ManushiChhillar on becoming #MissWorld2017.. cherish and learn, and most importantly enjoy it. Bravo"

And the moment that filled us up with pride and left us teary eyed

I don't know why but beauty pageant makes me feel like I'm truly ugly, heavyweight girl with pimple on face:( I mean I'm not feeling jealous of her, just that it makes me feel insecure about myself:(

I dont think she deserved to win

Shes just okay ,nothing great

Shes surely not beautiful from any angle ,i just googled her pics ...below average is the word for her , also shes half bald ,kindly google her pics before calling her a beauty

Are you sure you are not looking at her mother or your reflection?

Her smile is just fantastic! Million dollar mega watt smile and with those dimples. I hope she gets in to acting and gives us all a decade of good cinema (unlike Katrina). Salman, Akshay, kuch karo! Cast her!

How is she looking as white as Miss England?

Uhh, she's north Indian? I'm a Punjabi born and brought up in Canada, and I'm in fact lighter than most of my white friends. Indians come in all shades of color, not just one. Get over it.

one of the videos arent working. but the top 5 contestants all possess that undeniable beauty so it must have been a hard competition to judge. manushi seems like a really calm and sober person. shes not one to react overtly at all. shes all cool and collected and simply flashing that megawatt smile of hers! i want to see her dance portion.

Since when motherhood is considered a profession ??? apart from her wrong answer - she is dreamy and extremely pretty woman. She looks like a true princess in every way. Love her smile. But her answe was surely wrong

in all honesty Miss England gave the perfect answer!

Priyanka thinks she has a successor, the woman is so self absorbed it’s unreal. This ain’t about you, girl.

shes sooo those princesses in fairy tails and the crown looks perfect on her :D

I totally love her!! Look at that smile..shes so beautiful :) Plus her answer was really good. a mother's job deserves the highest salary (i.e. love and respect) can take it as a's an analogy guys stop thinking so straightforward and dumb...think beyond!! I felt that was a really smart depends how on how you understand it. for me she is by far the best miss world we have had :D Love India!!!

The Miss World and Miss Universe juries and boards obviously love Hallmark-inspired answers best, whether or not they are intelligent answers.remember the love-caring-sharing answer from Sushmita back in her hey day?

yeah then tell me what should she reply? if you had 1 lakh rupees to give would you give it to a doctor, lawyer, engineer or your mum who has worked so hard to make you a doc, lawyer or an engineer? she's given you birth & nurtured you..she deserves everything in the world!!! her reply was very good and apt :D

I really hope she doesn't jump into movies.. she can make so much use of this global platform to promote healthcare, esp being a doctor.. there are so many places in the world where doctors can make so much of a difference.. we are unfortunately living in difficult times..

her reply was so unimpressive

Her answer is as really DUMB she doesnt even have the brains to understand the question, she ignored the ques and answered what she wanted to and what she had rehearsed !! i dont think shes intelligent

shes a medical student for god's sake!! how can she be not intelligent. you should see all her q/a in miss india as well. you will realize how dumb you are :P

she's tall like deepika..will get tons of movies if she can act..not that it everyone wants to cast miss world.congrats manushi.

honestly I liked Miss England's answer on global healthcare the best.Kenya and France stuttered so lost out right there.England and India were the really confident ones while answering,India even more than England.Maybe that's what won her the crown.

This is equivalent to wannabe Chopra's answer on Mother Teresa. Do mother's get paid? Had the question been which profession do you think should get the highest pay, her answer would have been relevant. They didn't ask which profession should get the highest respect.

She’s gorgeous!

Beauty with brains. They even interviewed her parents in the audience even before the winner was announced, so she was the clear favorite to win.

Lol soon she will jump to bwood!

What a scummy thing to say! Why turn everything political. I worry for the future of the world I really do. Congrats to this beautiful girl on winning the title and making ALL East Asians in India as well as all neighboring countries but also all Indians and Pakistanis around the world very proud.
