In March, John Abraham acquired the Hindi remake rights of the Malayalam hit, Ayyappanum Koshiyum and announced that he would be producing the film in Hindi once the on ground Covid scenario gets better. The original film featured Prithviraj and Biju Menon in the lead, and ever since the announcement of Hindi remake, the trade was wondering as to who would spearhead this 2-hero film. And now, Pinkvilla has got an update on the casting of this film. According to a source, it would mark a reunion of the Dostana jodi.
“John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan have been trying to collaborate on a film again ever since the release of Dostana. However, nothing really materialized. Ayyappanum Koshiyum is finally a quintessential two hero film that does justice to their persona and gives equal standing to both John and Abhishek. They have started a conversation on the film and the paperwork should be done soon,” revealed a source close to the development. Interestingly, earlier last decade, John and Abhishek were to collaborate on Dostana 2, however, the script didn’t shape up as well as expect and the idea was put on the backburner.
The franchise is now revived with a completely new story giving fresh outlook to the original and features Kartik Aaryan and Janhvi Kapoor in lead. Ayyappanum Koshiyum was among the last releases of 2020 before a nationwide lockdown was announced in March. The film was appreciated by the critics and audience alike for the portrayal of the ego battle between the two leads and the manner it impacts the lives of even the ones in surrounding. The story revolves around the conflict between Koshy Kurien (Prithviraj), an influential and wealthy ex-Havildar and Ayyappan Nair (Biju Menon), a Sub-inspector in Attappadi.
