EXCLUSIVE: Kalki 2 team aims at December 2027 release; Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan and Sai Pallavi to wrap up shoot by next April
Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Sai Pallavi and Kamal Haasan are in the process of completing their shooting schedules for Kalki 2.
After the blockbuster success of Prabhas starrer Kalki 2898 AD, the makers are now gearing up for the next chapter in the ambitious cinematic universe. Directed by Nag Ashwin, the sequel is progressing at a steady pace. Pinkvilla has exclusively learned that the team is aiming for a grand theatrical release in December 2027. Yes, you read that right! The film will continue the epic sci-fi saga centered from where it left off.
Sources confirm that major portions of the film are expected to be wrapped up by April next year, with Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan and Sai Pallavi completing their respective schedules by April next year. “Makers of Kalki 2 are planning an extensive post-production process, given the heavy visual effects and world-building required for the futuristic spectacle,” confirms the source.
The sequel is expected to explore more into the mythology and emotional conflict established in the first film. While plot details are being kept under wraps, insiders suggest that the battle against Supreme Yaskin will take center stage, with several new twists and characters.
"Kalki 2 team is planning large-scale action sequences with Prabhas, and the groundwork for the same has already begun. The sequel is a lot bigger than the first part, as the real battle in the world of Kalki begins here," reveals the source.
One of the biggest highlights of the franchise remains the presence of Kamal Haasan as the menacing antagonist Supreme Yaskin.
Interestingly, the film also marks another collaboration of legends Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan, who were last seen together in the 1985 cult action drama Geraftaar, which also featured superstar Rajinikanth. Their face-off in the Prabhas starrer Kalki universe is expected to be one of the major cinematic highlights of the sequel.
With a massive scale, cast, and an expansive sci-fi universe, Kalki 2 is already shaping up to be one of the most awaited Indian films of 2027.
