Exclusive: Kareena Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor and VDW cast shoots with international male models for Tareefan
Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhasker and Shikha Talsania shot for a special song, Tareefan, featuring them and rapper Badshah, and choreographed by Farah Khan for their next film Veere Di Wedding.
Trust the feminist brigade to shoot something different and exciting. Pinkvilla had reported about Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhasker and Shikha Talsania shooting a special song, Tareefan, featuring them and rapper Badshah, and choreographed by Farah Khan for their next film Veere Di Wedding. While we know that the song on role reversals had girls taking on stereotypical roles assumed by their male counterparts, we have got to know more exclusive details about it and who are their co-stars in the song.
Says a source, “Sonam, Rhea, Farah, Swara and VDW co-producer Ekta Kapoor are feminists in their own ways, standing up for the cause of women, so when the discussion of shooting Tareefan came up, all decided it has to be something unique. It is a promotional video for the movie and everything is very hush hush. Tareefan is a really cool track by Badshah and not the usual, coy, bouncy, girlie music videos that you see. Farah, Ekta and Rhea wanted something which would place the boys in the girls’ seats as equals. Why are only guys shown having all the fun? Top hunky male models were flown down from abroad to shoot the music video which has the actresses doing what an actor would do. The song will be launched after the trailer launch next week but very international and stylized.”
Farah Khan says, “It’s like an international music video. All the girls look stunning. Rhea and I had a particular look in mind and they also had their celebrity makeup and stylists and we all sat together and discussed it. It’s not a party song but a very glamorous video. It’s a role reversal video. The idea was that everything that you see in a music video, like male singers and rappers doing and sexy girls around. This time the girls are in the forefront and we got some really hot Brazilian international male models in the background like you have girl dancers so all the four girls are doing everything the guys would usually do – they are waiting for the guys to get ready, to finish their shower, they are driving the guys to the club and paying for the boys with their credit cards and all this has been shot in a very stylized way. All the things that you see in a music video we have turned it round on its head. Everything was shot in the studio with our fabulous DOP Ravi Varman.”
Farah adds that it was Rhea who got her on board and not her father Anil with whom she has been friends for years. “I am very fond of Rhea and especially after working with her on this video I am really impressed with her. She’s like a one-person unit - also the producer, she got the track done, styled the girls and managed everything including picking up lights. It’s also the first time I am working with them and it was lovely.”
