EXCLUSIVE: Madhoo Shah reveals her fun memories of Diljale: ‘We used to be team Ajay Devgn, otherwise…’
In an exclusive chat with Pinkvilla’s Hindi Rush, Madhoo Shah talks in detail about her memories with Ajay Devgn on Diljale sets and the movie’s connection with her husband.
Madhoo Shah, the actress best known for evergreen films like Roja and Phool Aur Kaante, was recently featured in an exclusive interview with Pinkvilla’s Hindi Rush. During the interaction, the actress opened up about her cherished memories with Ajay Devgn from the sets of Diljale and the connection the film holds with her husband.
Speaking about the same, Madhoo recalled her fond memories from the sets of Diljale alongside Ajay Devgn. She said, “Humare pehle movie ke baad, hum established hue. Ajay became a superstar, I became a star, meri Roja wagera release hui. Phir hum mile Diljale main. Humare levels change ho gaye the. Humne kaafi enjoy kiye uske shoot main. Hum Shimla main shoot kar rahe the, humko mountain main le jaate the. Sonali, hum sab saath main.”
(After our first film, both of us became established in the industry. Ajay became a superstar, and I became a star as well, with films like Roja being released. We met again while working on Diljale. By then, our careers had reached a different level. We had a lot of fun during the shoot. We were filming in Shimla and were often taken to the mountains for shooting. Sonali and all of us spent a lot of time together.)
“Woh bohot pranks bhi khelte the. Mere saath nahi, kyunki main team Ajay Devgn ke side main thi. Agar unke side nahi toh woh rula denge. Par unke saath hone par, hum doosaron ko rula ke, khud haste the,” she added.
(There were also a lot of pranks on set. Not with me, though, because I was on Ajay Devgn’s team. If you weren’t on his side, he would make you cry. But when you were with him, we would end up teasing others and laughing about it ourselves.)
Continuing the conversation, Madhoo said, “Funny, meri pehle film unke (Ajay Devgn) saath thi aur almost last film, Diljale bhi unke saath thi. So, kinda like my first and last film was almost with Ajay. Funny thing is my now husband Anand was in Singapore aur woh apne family ke saath Diljale dekhne gaye the theaters main. He hadn’t even seen Roja. Unhone pehle baar mujhe Diljale main dekha tha.”
(It’s funny, my first film was with Ajay Devgn, and one of my last films before I stepped away from acting, Diljale, was also with him. So, in a way, both my first and almost my last film were with Ajay. Another funny thing is that my now-husband Anand was in Singapore at the time and went to watch Diljale in theatres with his family. He hadn’t even seen Roja. The first time he saw me on screen was in Diljale.)
“Teen-chaar din pehle, Anand jab office mein empty baithe the, unhone search karke YouTube par Phool Aur Kaante dekha aur bolne lage, ‘you were so innocent.’ Lekin unhone uss waqt nahi dekha tha. Unhone Diljale ko pehle dekha aur unko main bohot pasand aayi thi,” the actress added.
(Just three or four days ago, Anand was sitting idle at the office and searched for Phool Aur Kaante on YouTube. After watching it, he told me, ‘You looked so innocent.’ But he hadn’t seen the film back then. Diljale was the first film of mine that he watched, and he really liked me in it.)
Moreover, Madhoo revealed that her husband and Anand Balraj were friends, and it was through him that the two met. She added that her husband had mentioned Diljale to Balraj, which eventually led to their meeting, as she was filming another movie with Anand Balraj around the same time.
