It's Anurag Kashyap's birthday today and the talented filmmaker is currently gearing up for the release of his upcoming directorial titled Manmarziyaan. This is a first of its kind film for Anurag as the film is of the rom-com genre, unlike his former movies which have a darker shade. The film stars Abhishek Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal in the lead roles and it's one movie which has made people excited for the release.

Well, it came as a surprise to us when we got to know Anurag will be directing a romantic genre and the level of excitement has increased due to this. The ace filmmaker is known for his dark, edgy films namely Paanch, Black Friday, Dev.D, Gulaal, That Girl in Yellow Boots, Gangs of Wasseypur (Part 1 and 2), Ugly, Raman Raghav 2.0 to name a few. During an EXCLUSIVE interaction with Pinkvilla, we quizzed Manmarziyaan's lead actors Abhishek, Taapsee and Vicky if they were surprised when they got to know Anurag is directing the film.

Here's what they had to say -

Abhishek: I wasn't surprised, I was happy. I was intrigued because Anurag and love stories are not something which you will say in the same sentence. I thought it will be so interesting to give Anurag a love story and so interesting to see how he does it. He hasn't disappointed, he is just brilliant.

Vicky: I actually wasn't surprised because I know for the fact that the way he deals with the complexities of the relationships is amazing. It's real and he has got the spark to bring a colour and flavour to that, which is not a run-on-mill flavour. I was very excited to know that this story will be handled by Anurag Kashyap because you know that this is not gonna be anything that you visualise the story to be.

Taapsee: No, actually I have not seen many Anurag Kashyap directed movies. I have seen Dev D, Gangs of Wasseypur (Part 1 and 2) and Ugly. Dev D was also a sort of love story, but it had so much darkness, this one doesn't. It's a cleaned up and commercial version of Dev D almost.
