Awarapan 2 is one of the hottest films of 2026. The Emraan Hashmi and Disha Patani starrer tragic musical love story is in the headlines for its distribution rights. Several bigwigs of the entertainment industry recently met Mukesh Bhatt and showed their interest in bagging the distribution rights of the much-awaited sequel. And now, we have an exciting update on the same.

Pinkvilla exclusively learned that Pen Marudhar has acquired the distribution rights of Awarapan 2. A source told us that the deal is commissioned on an advance basis. Though the amount at which the deal got locked is kept under wraps, it is said to be an impressive figure.

Pen Marudhar has enough experience in navigating through several high-profile box office clashes in recent times, which turned out to be a big plus since Awarapan 2 is clashing with Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta starrer Lahore 1947 (reportedly titled Batwara 1947) on Independence Day weekend 2026. The distribution arm of Pen Studios will ensure a wide release for Awarapan 2 during the clash.

Last year, the Hindi film industry saw several surprise hits from the romantic genre backed by soulful musical albums; the Emraan Hashmi movie has been widely anticipated among the audience since then. Though the sequel factor is there, one must note that the first film was a box office dud. However, it turned out to be a cult romantic film among the masses with its satellite releases over time.

The sequel is expected to take a solid start, and it has the potential to be Emraan Hashmi's biggest comeback movie, by ending his dearth of a Clean Hit venture at the box office. If Awarapan 2 manages to garner a positive reception, only the sky is the limit for its box office pull, as the masses will lap it up even in a clash.

For the unversed, Awarapan 2 is currently in production. The love story is directed by Nitin Kakkar of Filmistaan (2012) fame. Bankrolled by Vishesh Bhatt of Vishesh Films, the movie also stars Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi in key roles. The film is scheduled for a grand release on August 14, 2026.
