Former Indian cricketer, Krishnamachari Srikkanth praised the New Zealand all-rounder, Mitchell Santner and said that he bowled brilliantly against the Men in Blue. However, the Indian cricketer believes that the Indian batsmen gave too much respect to him and should have played more positively against Santner. “When I say positively, that doesn’t mean hitting out, it’s showing some sort of positivity against Santner, putting him under pressure,” Srikkanth added.

In his column for ICC, Srikkanth also blamed the rain to be one of the major causes for India’s defeat on Wednesday. He said that because of rain and the match getting spilled over to a second day, was in his opinion one of the root causes for the defeat as far as India is concerned. “Had it been a full day, India probably would have had it easy,” He added.

Srikkanth also recalled the 1983 World Cup and how they batted first and scored about 260 runs against West Indies in the opening match at Manchester. However, the match then went in to the second day and the Indian team bowled West Indies out and won that match. He added that such things do happen when the games move over to the next day because of rain.

Srikkanth, however congratulated New Zealand and said that it was a thrilling semi-finals right up to the end. “If you look at the first three wickets and ask if it was bad batting or good bowling from New Zealand, I was say it was fantastic bowling by New Zealand,” Srikkanth added.
