The Marvel films had faced the criticism from Wolf of Wall Street director Martin Scorsese. The King of Comedy director Martin Scorsese had said that he tried watching the Marvel films on many occasions but they just did not feel like cinema. The director who helmed films like The Departed, Shutter Island, Mean Streets and Gangs of New York described in scathing words how none of the Marvel film could be categorised as cinema. Now, as per the latest reports on the Marvel films, Godfather director Francis Ford Coppola has now come to second the comment made by The Last Temptation of Christ director Martin Scorsese.

The Godfather director has termed the Marvel films as 'despicable'. Some time back, Avengers: Endgame actor Samuel L. Jackson who essayed the role of Nick Fury in the Marvel films said in defence of the Marvel films that not everyone can like films made under the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Samuel L. Jackson further stated that some people will not appreciate the efforts that go into making of films under the Marvel banner.  The Godfather and Apocalypse Now director Francis Ford Coppola showed support to Martin Scorsese's comment on Marvel film.

The director, Francis Ford Coppola made the comment after getting the Prix Lumière award in Lyon. Many fans have supported the Marvel films stating that there is a lot of love and appreciation showered on the MCU film by the film audience across the globe. Director James Gunn also came forward in support of the MCU films saying that a director like Martin Scorsese should watch the MCU films first before criticising them 'not cinema'.
