It's time to fall in love with the concept of fairytales and happily ever afters as Guy Ritchie brings to life the classic Disney story of the pauper turned prince, Aladdin, in his latest directorial. While Mena Massoud takes up the character of the charismatic Aladdin, Naomi Scott will be seen as the feisty Princess Jasmine. In what could be considered as a tricky casting choice, Will Smith was given the task of bringing the character of the beloved Genie to life.

In an interview with Variety, the Oscar-nominated actor got candid about playing Genie and the biggest challenge he had to overcome to bring the iconic character to life. "Being able to find a way to not make it jarring and disturbing by how different it would be. To make people feel at home while they were getting something new and special," Will revealed. Talking about the music in the film which is of primary importance in Aladdin, Will spoke about how Friend Like Me was in "the BPM range of old-school hip-hop." Hence, for Smith, the tempo and flavour was something he could understand.

Will continued, "And that showed me how I could pay homage to Robin and not change the songs so much, so people would have the nostalgic value, but then also be able to come with my own flavor."
