Angelina Jolie Shares Why She Hasn't Dated for 10 Years Since her Divorce from Brad Pitt: 'Life Has Broken Me’
Angelina Jolie dated Brad Pitt for nearly a decade before they finally got married in 2014. Two years later, they filed for divorce which finalized after nearly eight years.
In a rare occurrence, Angelina Jolie is pulling back the curtain on her private life, making a surprising confession about her relationship status. While promoting her upcoming drama Couture, the 51-year-old Oscar-winning actress revealed that she has not dated a single person since her high-profile separation from ex-husband Brad Pitt, nearly ten years ago.
Angelina Jolie admits to not dating anyone after Brad Pitt
Speaking candidly with Yahoo Entertainment, Angelina Jolie admitted that she is entirely focused on healing and protecting her family, rather than paying attention to her love life.
“To be candid, I haven't dated since I divorced a decade ago,” Jolie shared. "So, I kind of get in my head that that aspect of me is not centred in my life if I'm focusing on my children, my family,” she told the publication.
Jolie’s separation from Brad Pitt in 2016 triggered a highly publicized eight-year battle that was only finalized in late 2024. Looking back at the emotional toll of the past decade, the actress reflected on where she stands today.
Rather than worrying about turning 51, Jolie revealed she feels an overwhelming desire to reclaim her freedom. “I'm thinking I have to live again. Be free again. In a way that maybe life has broken me a little bit,” she admitted.
The Maleficent star shares six children with Pitt: Maddox (24), Pax (22), Zahara (21), Shiloh (20), Knox (17), and Vivienne (17). Interestingly, Jolie credits her daughters, Zahara, Shiloh, and Vivienne, with helping her find her voice and identity outside of just being a mother to them.
Watching her daughters grow into independent young women has acted as a mirror for the star’s own life.
“I'm discovering something now that my daughters are older. They're talking to me as young women, and I'm seeing what I want for them. I'm seeing what I don't want them to lose and what I want them to hold on to. And it's kind of reminding me what I may have lost,” Jolie expressed.
She added, “I think in some way they're bringing me back to my old self. I think they kind of want me now to not just be 'Mom.' There's a different room for me to be that woman again, that's not just a mom.”
While Jolie is on the way to self-rediscovery, her ex-husband has moved on. Reportedly, Brad Pitt has been in a relationship with Ines de Ramon since 2022.
