Ann Blyth, Oscar Nominated Actor of Mildred Pierce, Passes Away at 98

Hollywood has introduced the audience to some incredibly talented icons who changed the face of storytelling, bringing their own antics, wit, and creativity to the set. Among them was Ann Blyth, one of the final remaining icons from Hollywood’s Golden Age. But sadly, the industry lost the gem.
Ann Blyth passes away
Ann Blyth passed away peacefully of natural causes at the age of 98, shared KABC's George Pennacchio. Renowned for her striking versatility as both a dramatic actress and a trained operatic soprano, Blyth leaves behind a rich legacy spanning film, theater, and television.
Born in Mount Kisco, New York, in 1927, Blyth began her career performing on children's radio shows and singing with an opera company before moving to Broadway. Her Hollywood journey began in 1944 with Chip Off the Old Block.
At just 16 years old, Blyth delivered a chilling, career-defining performance as Veda Pierce in the 1945 film noir masterpiece Mildred Pierce. Playing the toxic, ungrateful teenage daughter of Joan Crawford’s titular character, Blyth proved her acting prowess against the seasoned screen legend.
The role earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress and produced some of cinema's most memorable showdowns.
Shortly after the success of Mildred Pierce, Blyth suffered a catastrophic back injury in an accident. Despite fears that she might never walk again, her resilience allowed her to return to the screen.
After her final major film role in 1957's The Helen Morgan Story, Blyth went back to musical theater tours and made guest appearances on classic television series such as The Twilight Zone and Murder, She Wrote. She was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960.
Blyth, who retired from acting in the mid-1980s, was known as much for her warmth and dedication to her family. She was married to Dr. James McNulty, and together they raised five children. Ann Blyth’s passing marks the end of an era, but her unforgettable contributions to the entertainment industry will endure for generations to come.
