Anne Hathaway reveals she was not happy after winning an Oscar for Les Miserables; Says ‘interned hated me’

Actress Anne Hathaway recently spoke to British newspaper The Sun and opened up about winning a coveted Oscar, to one’s surprise the actress was not pleased about winning the prestigious award.  “You’re supposed to be happy,” the 38-year-old actress told The Sun on Sunday. “I didn’t feel that way.” For the unversed, The Intern Anne won the award in 2013 for her terrific performance in the musical Les Miserables. It was around the same time that the actress was facing criticism from everywhere, with articles even underlining why everyone “hated” her.

Anne told The Sun that she felt bad, standing on the Oscar stage wearing couture that cost more than some people are going to see in their lifetime and winning an award for portraying pain that still felt very much a part of our collective experience as human beings. She then added that she tried to pretend that she was happy but she then got called out on it, majorly.

Looking forward, Anne stated that she doesn’t want to dredge up the past, but she did have her fair share of challenges. Given the internet turned on her and hated her, “it was like a whole big thing,” she added. Still, looking back, Anne has a pretty positive attitude, she then said: “And it was a really good thing for me personally. You can be incredibly empowered because of those things. So I guess what I’d say is bad s–t happens, don’t fear it—just go with it, flow with it.”
