For the longest of time, the dark corners of internet speculated that Captain America would die in Avengers: Endgame. Fans were convinced that the Russo Brothers would end Steve Rogers' arc either in Avengers: Infinity War or Endgame. Fan theories went a step ahead to even pen down scenarios speculating Steve's death in the franchise. However, Joe and Anthony Russo turned the tables. The Marvel Cinematic Universe movie witnessed Steve travel back into time and growing old with Peggy. Turns out, there was a good reason behind keeping Steve alive in the franchise.

According to Joe Russo, Avengers: Endgame's co-director, Marvel Studios decided to keep Chris Evans' MCU character alive for the sake of fans. Marvel followers were already broken by Iron Man's death in the movie. Speaking with Empire, the filmmaker confessed that had they killed even Captain America in the movie, it would have left fans devastated.

"Once you kill a beloved character like [Tony], you’ve got to have hope at the end of the movie in some regard, and the only person to give you that hope is the other co-lead," he began explaining. "Had we killed both the leads, I feel like people would have been walking out into traffic after the film. The intention is not to destroy people, it’s to hopefully tell a complex and dimensionalised story in a way, that makes them feel a varied range of emotion," he said.

We're so glad the Russo Brothers decided to go against the idea of killing Steve Rogers. We would have been making appointments with our therapist had they killed Steve as well. Meanwhile, a petition is making the rounds online demanding the Marvel Studios to change the ending of Avengers: Endgame. The petition demands to bring Tony back to life because he deserved to be with his family after all the hardships he went through in the past.
