Avengers: Endgame was the poetic swansong for the OG 6 Avengers (Iron Man, Captain America, The Hulk, Thor, Black Widow and Hawkeye), who kickstarted the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) journey, a decade ago. For RDJ, in paticular, Avengers: Endgame marked the last time we would see him as Iron Man, given how Tony Stark sacrifices himself to defeat Thanos. But, did you know that Robert was aware of Iron Man's fate in Avengers: Endgame, well in advance? Somewhere during the filming of Captain America: Civil War (2016).

While talking to Empire, Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, revealed when he informed Tony's arc to Downey. "I remember pitching that to Robert Downey Jr. probably in December of 2015, I think. I pitched him the idea of the two-part finale for Avengers and Spider-Man: Homecoming, which was a part of that leading into it. It took a little while, but eventually, it came together," Kevin disclosed. Furthermore, Feige added that at first, it didn't seem real that this journey would come to an end. However, as they got closer to shooting, it was really emotional for the entire team, especially RDJ.

Meanwhile, according to Backstory, Avengers: Endgame directors Joe Russo and Anthony Russo aka Russo Brothers believe that Robert deserves an Oscar for his performance in the MCU movie, especially for the sequence when he looks at Benedict Cumberbatch's character Doctor Strange and realises what Stark has to do to defeat Thanos and ultimately save the universe.
