In Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), one of the primary storylines was the romantic angle between Bruce Banner and Natasha Romanoff aka Hulk and Black Widow. The movie ended with Hulk leaving for space while Natasha tries to track him in Captain America: Civil War (2016). In Thor: Ragnarok, we come to know that Hulk has stayed in Sakaar for years and through Romanoff's voiceover, he transforms back to Bruce. In Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame, we get limited conversations between both the characters, that left MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) fans confused.

Finally, the writers of Avengers: Endgame, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely revealed to Empire’s podcast as to why Hulk and Black Widow's romance was put on the backburner. While there were scenes written for the two characters in Avengers: Infinity War, it was left in the cutting room, for the sake of the story. They further spoke about the sequences where they sort out their equation given how they both were away from each other for the longest time and that they have moved on. However, if the scene was not on the 'A plot', it could not survive Avengers: Infinity War.

"That thing has to be on rails just to get to the finish line. You couldn’t wrap up loose threads just because you wanted to," they continued.

Speaking about the limited conversations in Avengers: Endgame they added, "He was smart Hulk in this movie and it did seem a little odd, in the midst of everyone’s mourning and his change to a 2000-pound genius, to go, ‘and they’re dating!’ We thought it would be more elegant not to address that."
