The genius behind the 2026 American science fiction psychological horror film, Backrooms, is making waves online.
Kane’s journey is nothing short of a movie script itself. Back in January 2022, as a 16-year-old, a tech enthusiast utilized animation software to create a fictional horror web series and uploaded it online. His impeccable attention to detail and hyper-realistic aesthetics went viral. The video amassed millions of views, creating a cult following and grabbing the attention of Hollywood biggies.
Fast forward to 2026, Kane Parsons made his highly anticipated feature directorial debut with Backrooms. Backed by industry maestros like James Wan and Shawn Levy, the film reinvented the psychological horror genre. The film features Chiwetel Ejiofor, Renate Reinsve, Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, Lukita Maxwell, Avan Jogia, Robert Bobroczkyi, and Krista Kosonen.
Made on a modest budget, his big-screen debut film broke many box office records. Before arriving in the film industry, the American filmmaker, YouTuber, and composer dropped a mystery thriller web series called The Oldest View in 2023. Later, he came up with People Still Live Here, a digital horror web series, in 2025.
Some of his other web series are Project 209 and Attack on Titan. He also created multiple short films like It's Nicer Here and Transmission Server. After Backrooms did great business, veteran filmmaker Steven Spielberg lauded the film’s success.
