Brad Pitt sat down with actor friend and co-star Anthony Hopkins to discuss films, personal struggles and relationships with Interview magazine. The 55-year-old star and 81-year-old actor also addressed Brad's drinking struggles which led to the infamous fallout between him and ex-wife Angelina Jolie. The two began their discussion by the Ad Astra star bringing up the topic of fate and asking Hopkins if he is a believer. Both the actors opened up candidly about their life and the choices they have made.

Pitt and Angelina Jolie reportedly split after the actor had a drunken altercation with eldest son Maddox on a flight. His drinking struggles were brought to light and since then Brad Pitt has been on the recovery path as well as embraced sobriety. Reminiscing the not-so-great phase of his life, Brad Pitt said, "I'm realising, as a real act of forgiveness for myself for all the choices that I've made that I'm not proud of, that I value those missteps, because they led to some wisdom, which led to something else. You can't have one without the other."

The actor also opened up about his drinking problem when Hopkins asked him openly about. Pitt said that he viewed his drinking problem as a "disservice" to himself and an "escape." However, he added that to "some degree" it was necessary. Brad Pitt, who has been spending quality time with his kids, says everyone is "judgemental and quick to treat people as disposable." But irrespective, the actor adds he is trying to be the best version of himself.

"We've always placed great importance on the mistake. But the next move, what you do after the mistake, is what really defines a person," later adding, "We're human, we want purpose, we want meaning in our lives. But to attain that, the key is two things: staying creative and being with the people you love."
