Christopher Nolan, Matt Damon, Tom Holland bring the magic of The Odyssey to Mumbai; Call film ‘love letter to cinema’
Christopher Nolan, Matt Damon and Tom Holland greeted Indian fans at a press conference hosted in Mumbai to promote their upcoming movie, The Odyssey.
Mumbai witnessed a cinematic event for the ages this week. Legendary filmmaker Christopher Nolan, alongside lead stars Matt Damon and Tom Holland, arrived in the city to host a spectacular premiere and press conference for their latest film, The Odyssey. The visit marked a milestone as Mumbai was officially one of the key stops on the film's global promotional tour, alongside London, Paris, and New York.

The Odyssey is an upcoming epic fantasy action film which has excited cinema lovers. Penned and directed by Christopher Nolan, it features an impressive ensemble cast that includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, and Lupita Nyong'o. Ahead of its worldwide release on July 17, 2026, the team flew down to India to promote their movie.
For Christopher Nolan, bringing The Odyssey to India was the fulfillment of a long-held ambition. During the press conference held on July 11, 2026, the director revealed that he had originally intended to premiere his 2020 film Tenet in Mumbai, but those plans were derailed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I've never been anywhere in the world with an appreciation of what movies can be and what they should be for audiences. To me, it seemed crazy that we wouldn't be bringing our film here to premiere it,” Hindustan Times quoted Nolan as saying.
The team held an exclusive premiere at a theatre in Lower Parel, Mumbai, on July 10, 2026, marking the film's first public screening in the world.
Matt Damon, who portrays the legendary Greek hero Odysseus, shared how special the experience was for the entire cast and crew. “Having the benefit of those 35 years behind me and then having the opportunity to play a role like this, it felt like my one chance to make a David Lean movie,” Damon noted, adding, “You will live with the consequences of your choices, so choose carefully.”
Tom Holland, who plays Telemachus, the son of Odysseus, was met with thunderous applause and took a moment to show his appreciation with a respectful namaste.
Addressing the crowd, Holland said, “From the bottom of my heart, thank you for always welcoming us with such open arms, happiness, excitement, grace, and love. I think no one brings energy to a movie theatre like you do here in India.”
The actor also described the project as “a love letter to cinema.” Since this is his first project with Nolan, he reflected, “Pressure is a privilege, and on this movie it really was.”
