Emmys 2019 Highlights: Fleabag, Chernobyl & Game of Thrones are major winners; Peter Dinklage gets emotional

Emmys 2019 just got done and there were several highlights to ponder over. While Game of Thrones was given an emotional tribute, Fleabag and Chernobyl dominated with several wins. While Bill Porter made Emmys history, Peter Dinklage got emotional over his win for GOT. Read below to know what you missed from Emmys 2019.

It was indeed a night to remember for Television fans who tuned in the wee hours of the morning to witness the Emmys 2019 going underway. The award ceremony was highly-awaited for Game of Thrones fans as it would be the last time we see the entire cast together. While GOT scored two big wins in the Outstanding Drama Series category and an Oustanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series win for Peter Dinklage, it was Phoebe Waller-Bridge's Fleabag and Chernobyl that dominated the Emmys 2019.

Fleabag won 4 Emmys including Outstanding Comedy Series and an Oustanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series win for Phoebe. On the other hand, Chernobyl took home the Emmy for Outstanding Limited Series. When it comes to the acting categories, Billy Porter made history when he became the first openly gay African American actor to win an Emmy in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series category for Pose. Peter Dinklage had Game of Thrones' fans in a puddle, over his emotional award-winning speech while Michelle Williams and Patricia Arquette won our hearts with their award-winning speeches for Oustanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for Fosse/Verdon and Oustanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for The Act.

Emotional tribute to Game of Thrones, Veep and The Big Bang Theory

It was indeed a special night for Game of Thrones when the 10 nominated actors took center-stage for a final homage to one of the greatest series ever made. While the entire cast got a standing ovation, it was Gwendoline Christie who got the biggest pop! On the other hand, Julia Louis-Dreyfus took the hilarious route to pay tribute to one of the greatest comedy series in recent time, Veep. While the cast of The Big Bang Theory did not come on stage, they were also paid homage to through an emotional BTS video.

Game of Thrones and Fleabag win Outstanding Drama and Comedy Series

Game of Thrones may not have won in all the major Drama categories, except for Peter Dinklage's win, but the show was given the highest honour of them all - Outstanding Drama Series. David Benioff and D.B. Weiss thanked George R.R. Martin, the cast and crew for their relentless hard work throughout the eight seasons. On the other hand, Phoebe Waller-Bridge led Fleabag took home the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series. Phoebe started the winning speech by quipping, "This is getting ridiculous." Chernobyl also won big as they won Emmys in the Oustanding Limited Series, Outstanding Directing for a Limited Series, Movie or Dramatic Special and Oustanding Writing for a Limited Series, Movie or Dramatic Special categories.

Peter Dinklage's emotional Emmy-winning speech

We all knew that Peter Dinklage was going to win the Emmy for Oustanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his astounding role as Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones but what was pleasantly surprising was how emotional the Game of Thrones star got. "Dave and Dan, we literally walked through fire and ice for you, literally. And I would do it all again in a heartbeat," Peter gushed. Dinklage also made history as he now had the most registered wins (4 Emmys) in the Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category. The GOT star was initially tied with Aaron Paul, who won 3 for Breaking Bad.

It's Phoebe Waller-Bridge's night

It indeed was Phoebe Waller-Bridge's night as her show, Fleabag took home 4 Emmys including Outstanding Comedy Series, Oustanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Phoebe, Oustanding Writing for a Comedy Series and Oustanding Directing for a Comedy Series. In her winning speech for Oustanding Lead Actress, Waller-Bridge gushed, "I’m so supported by this wonderful cast. A big shout-out to my acting agent, who has been rooting for me literally from the very beginning."

Billy Porter makes Emmy history

Billy Porter, with his impeccable performance in Pose, made Emmy history as the first openly gay black man to win Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series."We, as artists, are the people who get to change the molecular structure of the hearts and minds of the people who live on this planet. Please don’t ever stop doing that. Please don’t ever stop telling the truth," Billy stated.
