Billie Eilish - Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour is the Academy winner, Billie Eilish’s tour film capturing her sold-out Manchester shows. The concerts that took place in 2025 were a spectacle for thousands of fans of the 24-year-old and will now be made available to watch by many more via the documentary-style clips captured by legendary director James Cameron.

Billie Eilish is not new to the world of concert films, having documented two of her previous tours in Happier Than Ever: A Love Letter to Los Angeles (2021) and Billie Eilish: Live at the O2 (2023). The former was helmed by Robert Rodriguez and Patrick Osborne, while the latter had Sam Wrench in the captain spot. This time, the songstress joined the Canadian filmmaker for an immersive experience with her 3D film, showcasing never-before-seen behind-the-scenes moments, her eclectic performance, and the fanfare that accompanies it.

James Cameron and Billie Eilish share thoughts on joining forces in exclusive notes

Ahead of the film’s release in India, Pinkvilla exclusively learned the two directors’ thoughts on entering production and what it was like to see it come to fruition. Firstly, James Cameron, who is said to have come up with the idea of working on a 3D film himself, showered praise on the singer and her ability to get the others going with her during her concerts, be it her fans or her team. That may not be ideal for many filmmakers, but not for the 71-year-old, who seemed to have rather enjoyed it.

“She’s in constant motion,” shared Cameron. “Sometimes she’s just running flat out up and down the stage, which is about half the size of a football field. And people aren’t just passively listening. It’s like she has 20,000 backup singers. It’s a profoundly moving group experience and she’s like a tuning fork at the middle of it. I’m not saying that 20,000 people all sing perfectly in key, but they’re singing with her, and they’re feeling the joy or the sadness of that moment with her.”

It was all but a massive orchestra in motion as an impressive 20 cameras shot simultaneously to get the required result. “It took months of prep to make sure that we had every single shot and every single angle and every single moment of lighting all worked out,” said Eilish. She was particular about giving the flowers to all concerned parties, including her commendable band. “There were small but important moments that I wanted to be sure to include. It was important to me that the band was filmed every night. We spent so much time getting it right.”

Aiming to display a unique concert viewing experience for global audiences, Billie Eilish Hit Me Hard and Soft: the Tour (Live in 3D) comes to Indian theaters on May 15, 2026.
