EXCLUSIVE: Jason Momoa talks about performing stunts as Lobo in DC Studios’ Supergirl: "First day of action was fun"
Hollywood star Jason Momoa reveals his experience of working as Lobo with his Spacehog for DC Studios’ Supergirl.
The highly anticipated countdown for DC Studios’ feature film Supergirl has officially begun. Supergirl stars Milly Alcock in the dual roles of Supergirl and Kara Zor-El. Ace filmmaker Craig Gillespie directs the tentpole project with screenplay penned by Ana Nogueira. In an exclusive conversation with Pinkvilla, Jason Momoa opens up on performing stunts as Lobo with his Spacehog for the film.
Jason Momoa reveals his experience of performing stunts as Lobo
Reflecting on the intense physical preparation, riding the character's famous Spacehog vehicle, and collaborating closely with stunt coordinator Rob Inch, Momoa shared his excitement with Pinkvilla. Talking about performing with the Spacehog and working with Rob Inch and his stunt team, Momoa says, "Working with Rob's team was phenomenal, all the stunt guys were excellent. It's pretty challenging when you get all that gear on. They were playing Brigands, and they got all that armor on, so we were all in it together."
Rockets, fireballs, and e-bikes on day 1 of production
Momoa spoke about mechanical hilarity and precision required to execute the action during his initial days on set. The Hollywood star said, "But I think my first day of action was pretty funny, 'cause I mean, all the guys know I can ride, but there's like a fireball up my ass, I have to go and then hit the brakes, which is your right hand, which is weird. It hits the brakes, as it's an e-bike, so it's very clumsy, with rockets on it, so it can't do the things you want it to do."
It looks cool. Anyways, we gas it, we go in, and I want to slide in as the crane's pushing in, and I got to slide in and take my cigar out of my mouth at the same time, and then say the line and hit the mark while the thing's coming at me. And it was pretty fun. Just like that, here's the introduction to the character."
Comparing the experience to his past underwater blockbusters, Momoa explained, "And it's always a hard move. Like Aquaman, they dropped me through the ceiling, and I have to land on my feet, but you have to go through a hole that's the size of your body, and if you lean forward, you're gonna get knocked out. So, you just have to drop through a floor, and then think, can you get the stance right? I can't even see the floor. And this time, there's a fireball of grass, I just need you to hit the mark as you're going at speed, get a cigar out, and say the line. But it was like, yeah, I can. I'm Lobo, of course I can."
