In October, legendary director Martin Scorcese said he did not consider Marvel movies cinema. He called out the superhero movies franchise and caused an uproar among those in the industry. The statement left Hollywood divided. Several Academy Award-winning directors took Scorcese's side while Marvel and DC makers called Martin out. Recently, Fantastic Four director Josh Trank came out to show his support to Scorcese by praising his recent release and commenting about the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, his comment against the Marvel movies did not go down well with Marvel fans.

His initial tweet praised Scorcese's recent release featuring Robert Di Niro in the lead where he said that the film's initial five minutes "has more humanity and truth and cinematic intrigue than the running length of every single Marvel movie combined ahahahahahahahaha. Sorry, facts. PS: Not sorry.” This tweet ended up becoming an invitation to trouble. The filmmaker was at the receiving end of hate tweets. Several fans called him out for his statement and it got so ugly that the director ended up pulling the tweet down. He tweeted, “I'm sorry guys. I will die for the cinema. You won't. You want hugs and affirmations, high fives for corporate and brand fandom. Don't try to talk to me about film history, film appraisal, art, professional risks, personal growth, and/or understanding/fairness to films/art/self-expression. Real film lovers understand and fux with me.”

Trank called it a night with the tweet, "My Mom wants me to stop tweeting. Night folks." Well, there’s one thing that every Marvel and cinema fan was pointing toward and that was it wasn’t necessary to insult Marvel movies if he wanted to praise Scorsese’s The Irishman.
