Florence Pugh on Black Widow: People will be surprised by outcome of a big action film having so much heart
After Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home, the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) fans have had some breathing space to take in the repercussions of both the heartbreaking films. At the 2019 San Diego Comic Con, Kevin Feige revealed the plans for Phase 4, which included a standalone film on the OG 6 Avenger - Black Widow. Directed by Cate Shortland, Black Widow will see Scarlett Johansson returning as the beloved Natasha Romanoff at least one more time along with David Harbour, Florence Pugh, O-T Fagbenle, and Rachel Weisz in pivotal roles.
Speaking of Florence, the Little Women star will be essaying the role of Nat's sister Yelena Belova in Black Widow. Fans at Comic Con and the D23 Expo 2019 got a taste of the action we can expect from the upcoming MCU film, as an intense fight sequence between Natasha and Yelena was showcased at both the events. While appearing on Variety's Actors on Actors series, Pugh spoke candidly to Beanie Feldstein about what we can expect from Black Widow. "I think we’ve made something very raw and very painful and very beautiful and I think people are going to be really surprised by the outcome of a big action film having that much heart," the 23-year-old actress revealed.
"And I know lots of people will be emotional about her because her character had such a hard ending [in Avengers: Infinity War], but it was special learning from her, and she’s been doing this for like 10 years in those films. For this to be her film was special. And I got to be there and see how she does stunts and lives it, and it’s so her," Florence added.
Talking about her special experience of working with Scarlett and Kate in Black Widow, Pugh confessed that it was a very unique journey for her, unlike other movie sets and she had to take it all in.
