After Christian Bale and Heath Ledger nailed their portrayals as the Batman and Joker, it is difficult for DC fans to accept new actors filling their big shoes. A couple of new faces have been tapped to bring back the iconic superhero and his archnemesis on the big screen in newer movies. Ben Affleck once played the Cape Crusader and now, we have Robert Pattinson donning the Batsuit. On the other hand, Jared Leto played the Joker in Suicide Squad. And now, Joaquin Phoenix has impressed everyone at the Venice Film Festival 2019 with his Joker.

However, what does Bale think of the new Joker? The actor, who will soon be seen in Ford v Ferrari with Matt Damon, recently shared his thoughts on Phoenix's portrayal as the Joker. The Dark Knight actor confessed that he hasn't seen the Venice Film Fest favourite yet. However, he applauded Phoenix's courage to take on Joker, especially after Ledger took to an unmatchable height.

Speaking to ET Canada, Bale said, "Joaquin is one of the best actors around, you know, and obviously I worked with Heath… You know, it’s a brave thing to follow up that performance and he always makes interesting choices… Dying to see it… I wish them the best with that.”

Directed by Todd Philips, Joker took the Venice Film Festival 2019 by storm. The movie earned an eight-minute standing ovation at the premiere and bagged the Best Film award as well. Bale had previously reacted to Pattinson's casting as the new Batman. He thought it was an interesting choice and was confident that the Twilight star would pull it off.
