Sami Callihan and Tessa Blanchard had a lot to prove when they stepped inside the squared circle for Impact Wrestling's PPV, Slammiversary XVII. And, they delivered in spades. Tessa started the match with a hurricanrana on Sami and even hit a death valley driver. While Callihan received a ton of boos, Tessa received a ton of applause and had the audience's support. While Sami tried to powerbomb Blanchard, Tessa countered with a clean cutter on the ramp. When Tessa pummeled Sami to no end, the referee tried to intervene and she back-elbowed him.

When Blanchard tried to check up on the referee, Callihan blindsides her by hitting her with his bat. However, Tessa breaks out of the pin. After two package piledrivers, Sami was able to tame Tessa and win the match. After the match, Sami picked up his bat as well as Tessa's gold bat. While it looked like he was about to attack her, Callihan just hands off Tessa's golden bat to her. Sami headed backstage while the crowd cheered for Blanchard.
